I Am The Co-op: Patty Payton Infuses the Inanimate with Memory
Patty Payton has been with the Boise Co-op for 14 years, and currently handles in-store promotions as part of the Co-op’s marketing efforts. At First Thursday tonight, however, she’ll be revealing another part of herself at Piazza di Vino on 9th Street between Bannock and Idaho – the venue for an exhibition of her unique brand of art.
If you were going to put a name to what Patty creates, you might think of it as “collography” – a fusion of found art, painted canvas, and layered digital imagery inspired by memory and emotions triggered by objects she encounters.
One of her works on display incorporates pieces of old farm machinery from family properties in California’s Gold Country, juxtaposed with the silhouette of woman who may have been a figure from her own past. “I don’t know what it is that makes me want to make old things new or functioning again…or have life. A lot of the pictures are from family memories that I try to re-animate through objects I find.” If an object that Patty sees in her mind’s eye doesn’t physically exist, she’ll create it.
If you missed Patty’s showing at First Thursday, her art will continue to be displayed at Piazza di Vino; and if you’d like to follow her artistic journey, you can also connect with her on Facebook.
